These flowers contain natural grayanotoxins, which pass into the honey. In small amounts, this is what Himalayan communities have traditionally consumed with care; in larger amounts, grayanotoxins can cause "mad honey disease" — symptoms like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, and an irregular heartbeat. This is a real and well-documented effect, not folklore.

A Note on Safe Use

Because of its grayanotoxin content, Mad Honey should be treated with real caution:
